Sales as Sitting Down with Friends
A prayer recorded walking to my car after a meeting. These are my confessions.
Oh, how I love your law. Make me like you in every way, Master, even through my simple business processes. What a fun thing to be a salesman, which means someone who gets to sit across from a friend and give them the best advice possible. What a blessing.
I read in the psychological literature that those who love to give occupy both the top and the bottom strata of income categories. Those who love to give without ever receiving anything in return are people that other people want to work with. And a lot of times they’ll make 50% more than other top producers who are just pure salespeople. And if they’re in a position of leadership, they’ll make factors more. Impossibly more than just a salesperson, for they, through leading others, have found a way to multiply the good to such a degree that would be impossible for only one man.
And in a sense this is spiritual. And what I wrote about in “Christian Mystic,” You minister to me by Your Spirit. And so a man who is a leader of many participates with the Spirit, and because he does, many more are blessed beyond what any man can do. The sum is greater... the total is greater than the sum of its parts. The function of the organization.
So again here I am in this building stage and just grateful to God to sit across from Anthony today and give him the best possible advice. What a mercy. To sit across from a friend. And at the same time, I know that I had to make sure I scheduled our follow-up meeting right then and there. Because a giver without systems makes almost nothing. But a giver with systems and processes that are well understood, well outlined, well delineated, has a chance to of course earn their keep abundantly more, and then also lead.
Help me develop systems, God, that will facilitate my giving. Please grow me so that the heart which becomes on full display as You put me in positions of leadership is not a heart of clay or stone, but a heart of flesh that can be moved by You, and that can embrace many. And by Your Spirit, help something good happen in this earth.
Thank you for the simple act of consulting, and this business and opportunity You’ve given me. Have mercy on me and help me be very, very good at helping my friends. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Amen.
